Dora Jean Cosmetics is named after my amazing grandmother, Dora Jean. I had made attempts in the past to create a makeup line, but business just wasn’t there, so I had to call it quits. Afraid of failing again, I put the idea of having a successful makeup line out of my head. She was never happy about that and would often ask if I ever thought about giving it another shot. Years later, I decided I would try again, but hadn’t discussed it with anyone at the time. I went to visit my grandmother later that week for what would be, unbeknownst to me, the last time. She was alert and in good spirits, and we laughed and joked like we hadn’t in a while. Before I left that day, she pulled me aside and asked if I had given anymore thought to creating a makeup line again. She made me promise I would give it another go, and we all know you can’t break a promise to granny! I received the call later that night that she had passed and I knew right then that I had to follow through on my promise. As a licensed esthetician and makeup artist, my goal was to create high quality beauty products that are safe for all skin types and conditions. As a vegan, the priority from the start was creating a line that is vegan and cruelty free, as well as sustainable, eco-friendly as possible, and of course, handmade with love. Thus, Dora Jean Cosmetics was born.
